Cowboy – Painting

August 18th, 2010

This digital painting is my first attempt using my new Wacom Cintiq 12wx with Corel Painter.

Firstly the Wacom Cintiq is amazing! I would highly recommend this to both artists and designers. I had to upgrade my computer a little to compensate for another screen, but it is totally worth it!

Corel Painter is a fantastic program! I was amazed by how real the paint strokes look and how easy it is to use when combined with the Cintiq. I would definitely recommend this setup to all you fine artists out there who are interested in exploring the digital world.

I used this photo as a reference. Photo taken by Matt Cohen.

This is my final result.

I’m certainly not a fine artist and I will be the first to admit using the under-painting palette which pulls colors directly from your photo reference, but I was still amazed at the final outcome and how easy this was to achieve. This whole painting took me about 2 hours to complete.
